Why Define IT
Nine reasons, none of which are awards
We have no invented statistics and no accreditations we cannot evidence. What we have is a way of working that clients tell us is the difference.
The case
What actually differs, and why it matters
Each of these starts with the problem it addresses. If the problem does not describe your organisation, the reason is not relevant to you.
One technology partner
Most environments are supported by a patchwork: one supplier for hardware, another for connectivity, an accountant's nephew for the website, and an internal person holding it together. When something breaks across boundaries, the diagnosis time is spent establishing whose problem it is.
We take the whole estate, or a defined portion of it, with a single agreement and a single escalation path.
Enterprise expertise without enterprise distance
Large providers have the depth. They also have account layers, ticket queues and processes designed for their scale rather than yours.
You get engineers who know your environment and are reachable, working to documented processes rather than improvising.
Flexible service models
Not every organisation wants to outsource IT, and not every internal team needs replacing.
Fully managed, co-managed, project-based or advisory — including engagements that only ever produce a report.
Vendor-agnostic by preference
Providers aligned to one vendor tend to find that vendor's product is the answer.
We work across the major enterprise platforms and recommend on workload fit, existing skills and total cost. Where the honest answer is that you already have what you need, we say so.
Security-first thinking
Security bolted on afterwards is expensive and usually incomplete.
Identity, access, patching and recovery are designed into infrastructure and application work from the start.
Responsive support
Support quality is mostly a function of preparation: documented environments, standard builds, monitoring and ticket history.
Defined response targets, remote-first resolution and onsite attendance when the fault is physical.
Local expertise
Connectivity, procurement lead times, load-shedding resilience and POPIA obligations are local realities.
A South African business, familiar with the constraints your organisation actually operates under.
Scalable solutions
Committing to a large engagement with an unproven supplier is a reasonable thing to be cautious about.
Start with an assessment or a single site. Extend when the relationship has earned it.
Business outcome focused
Ticket counts and uptime dashboards measure activity, not value.
We report on downtime, risk position, cost and user experience — the things a CIO or CFO is being asked about.
Being straight about it
Where we are not the right fit
We are not a 24x7 global operation with follow-the-sun staffing. If your requirement is genuinely round-the-clock live cover as a baseline rather than an arranged inclusion, a larger provider will serve you better and we will say so.
We do not own data centre facilities or a telecommunications network. Where an engagement needs either, we design and manage it and deliver the underlying service through established providers — and we tell you exactly which party is responsible for what.
And we are not the cheapest option in a price-only comparison. Specification, documentation and testing take time, and that time appears in the quote.
